#askme: Future Fashion Guru

Q. I would like to be a stylist + help young women learn how to use the clothes in their closet. How do i make myself known?

I think that's a great idea! I'm sure there isn't a woman in the world who hasn't looked at their closet full of clothes and felt like they have nothing to wear. #hashtag By choosing to style clients with the clothes already in their closet you will more likely have a larger audience to serve. I can't speak for everyone but I don't want to hire a stylist AND have to spend hundreds on 1 or 2 outfits from the store. You mentioned that your target audience is young women, but exactly what age? By narrowing this down, it will be easier to build your brand.

Not to sound like a stalker but I saw you have a Snapchat and I see you're definitely not shy! Use Snapchat as your main social media platform ( I would suggest Instagram be 2nd). The next time you have a girls night at your bestie's house take some time to go through her closet and film your fun. Create several outfits, have her model them, and  make sure you snap a pic each time. These pictures and short videos can easily be posted to Instagram and even combined to make some fun videos to share on Youtube.

Also, since you're in the fashion industry look for others in the beauty industry and collaborate. Find a hairstylist and makeup artist and come together to give full makeovers or even to help one another individually and gain exposure. For example, the next time you're taking pictures of your clients have you MUA do her makeup for the shoot and give her a shout out on Instagram. It's a win - win for both of you; your model looked more gorgeous and your pictures looked more professional and the MUA was able to spread her name to your audience!
