7 Goals to Set Before Launching Your Blog

It’s 2018 and I’m sure you’ve proclaimed that this is YOUR year. You’ve told yourself that all of your self-doubt, fear, and procrastination will be left in 2017 and you will start your business or blog. And while I applaud this and am very proud of you, I have to ask:

What’s the first step on your road to success and when will it be completed?

The New Year is a great time to start your business because you’re motivated and are full of confidence, but without a plan your ideas will remain just that….ideas. But, because of my love of seeing you succeed I have made it my mission to make sure that you become the success you envision yourself to be. This month I’m (or should I say WE’RE) going to focus on creating a plan + following through with it. So,if you’re truly ready to show the world who you are and what you’re about, then let’s get started!

The first step we’re going to take is setting deadlines. Some advice I heard that really resonated with me was that in order to achieve your goals it’s important that you set a date. Because without it, the site you need to design, the blog posts you need to write, and the Facebook Group you need to create will only continue to get pushed back. The last thing I want is for your 2018 goals to become your 2019 resolutions. So, here are 7 things I encourage you to set a date for:

Establishing Your Visual Brand
This is one of the most fun parts of creating a blog, but can also be one of the most overwhelming. If you’re like me you love color, get excited every time you see a new font, and can spend hours playing with them both. That’s why it’s important that this is established before you launch, otherwise you could end up with an Instagram that has 6 different color schemes.

Writing Pre – Launch Content
I recommend having at least 4 blog posts written before you launch. This gives you a month to create new content for the upcoming month and focus on other things, such as growing your list and building your social media followers. Without pre – launch content you’ll find yourself stressing and scrambling to write anything.

Setting Up Social Media Accounts + Goals
It takes less than 5 minutes to create your Facebook page or Instagram account, so there’s no reason they shouldn’t be one of the first things completed. What takes time is building your followers and creating brand awareness. You don’t have to wait until your site is launched to work on your social media goals. In fact, I encourage you to set a goal for how many followers you’d like to have on each account by your launch date.

Designing Your Website
I was once told not to worry about how pretty my site was and to focus on making money. But, I can honestly say I couldn’t disagree more! If you’re not proud of your site, how likely are you going to promote it and encourage people to visit it? While it shouldn’t take you a year to design, I encourage you to dedicate a good amount of time and effort.

Create Your Email List
Email marketing is one of the best ways to build relationships with your audience and help make sure that they remain loyal fans of your business or blog. So before launching, be sure that you choose an email platform (Mailchimp is my favorite) and set up your list and your welcome email.

Creating a Freebie or Opt In + Freebie
Whether your blogging about fashion, social media, or your life it’s important to remember that you will be up against a lot of competition. With so many options from people to choose from it’s important that you provide your readers with an incentive to visit your site. This can be a worksheet, a discount product, ebooks…whatever compliments your brand.

Launch Date
What day do you want to shout from the rooftops that you are up + running? And I don’t mean telling your friends and family about your ideas, but having a site or blog that they can visit.
